You use TAPI (C library) or JTAPI (Java) to connect to CallManager and you ask CallManager to be notifed (via a callback) about the events occuring on a particular phone or phones. Then, when an incoming call (or other events) occur on the phone, your registered event-handler is called to notify you and run your code to perform any actions you'd like to do for that particular event.
