Phone firmware upgrade problems - 7940/60 CM 4.0(2a)sr1a
We have 7940, 7960 and 7905 phones across various sites linked with IPVPN WAN circuits.
2 x CM 4.0(2a)sr1a reside at the central site. No other CM exist on the WAN.
We are trying to upgrade the firmware on all of our phones (eg 7940/60 firmware from 7.1.1 to 7.2.3). We have completed this process without problem for all phones at our central site (ie local to the Call Managers). However on our remote sites only the 7905 phones will upgrade their firmware. The 7940/60 phones boot and just before the final display appears the message "Version Error" appears on the bottom line of the phone display.
Phones are SCCP not SIP.
As the phones in our central site all upgrade correctly we are happy that the necessary TFTP files exist and that CM Systems->Device Defaults is also set correctly. There are no firewalls/access lists etc across the WAN and as the 7905 remote phones upgrade we believe that the WAN config is not causing this problem. We have run TFTP detailed traces on phone boot up and can see the differences betweem the working/non-working firmware upgrade - however without an indepth knowledge of the phone boot process, this does not give us any clues as to what is happening. Does anyone have any ideas?
The workaround mentioned on this bug info is not clear.
Basically if the IP phone connected to the switch port configured as a trunk port or with vvlan ( for ip phone + PC ), please change this port setting to access port, IP phone will boot using access vlan.
Once the IP phone manage to boot up completly, change back the port setting.
