I inherited a closetful of broken Cisco phones... 7910s and 40s mostly. Their common problem is that when they ring and the user picks up the receiver, the phone keeps ringing and won't go off hook. One Cisco engineer at TAC said there was a field notice out that authorized RMA for this problem even without Smartnet coverage, but the last one I talked to hadn't heard of it. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks!
Don't know about the field notice, but we've RMAed several of these for that problem (they were all on Smartnet). The document mentioned above advised flipping the hookswitch repeatedly to clean the switch contacts or something. That never worked for us, and is not the kind of advice I give anyone who's paid a couple of hundred bucks for the phone.
