Poor Quality Voice Mail

I have recently remove attenuation levels on my customers voice gateways because external callers were complaining that the users on the ip phones sounded too quiet. This problem is no longer a problem (and thankfully no echo appears to have been introduced). However, some users are complaining that when the pick up voice messages from external callers, they can sound crackly. One option is that I re-introduce some attenuation at the gateways and tweak until I get a happy medium. However, I was wondering if there is some other solution to the crackly voice mail problem. Here are the system details:

CCM 3.1.3a sp F

Unity 2.4.6(135), TSP 6.0.2

Phone Load P00303010405

No codec conversion, G711

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Re: Poor Quality Voice Mail

well if you had a slightly newer version of unity, I would say go to and download the set volume tool.

But since you don't...tweaking on the gateways is one of the only ways to adjust this. I would use known test tones and levels as benchmarks for the adjustments that you are making.

Re: Poor Quality Voice Mail

Are you using 6608 gateway? We upgraded to CM 3.14b spC to resolve Unity VM issue termed 'Mr. Roboto' in the release notes. Basically we were getting choppy voice mails every so often. Problem seems to be resolved now. We also bumped default delay settings:

initial playout delay: 60

minimum playout delay: 40

maximum playout delay: 150

We are using 3640 gateways. Thanks for the info. An upgrade may be the answer since the version we are running is now rather old.

Re: Poor Quality Voice Mail

I used to have a comparable system (CCM 3.1, Unity, and had the same crackly poppy sounding messages. I fixed it by adjusting the recording db. The following link tells you how to adjust the registry in 2.4.6

Also found the following which looks newer and interesting in a general way.

Hope this helps.
