Port Locks UP Unity 3.13 TSP6.02b

Hello

About twice a week one or more of our unity ports will lock-up during a subscriber login attempt. We are unable to reset the port using the status monitor and must reboot the server to free the port(s) up. Each time a port locks up around 20 avmiu_mc (failure on port in av wav) errors are written to the apln log. (possibly bug cscdx78628, although the fix for that bug is an upgrade to 3.13 which hasn't sorted the problem out).

We have a TAC case open (D230507). On TAC's advice we have enabled the skinny trace and the most recent log is included below (port 1 locked up at 12:27).

We have seen the same issue here often at the mayors office. This started happening after we installed a MS patch for security vul. It happens with the TTS service using the port and not releasing it so it stays there in limbo. We just have to restart the AvTTS service and it frees it up. It's annoying though. We are running 3.1.2 and I'm hoping an upgrade to 3.1.5 will fix it. We're waiting for TAC to say, "Yes. It will"

We worked with TAC on this same issue for 3.1(5). The fix was us was upgrading TSP to 7.0(1). The TSP code handles the error more elegantly and should the error reoccur, requires just a stop/start of the TTS service - where it before required a reboot of Unity to correct. Tonight I am upgrading to TSP 7.0(2), the most current version of the wave drivers.

I was the engineer that worked with Ginger on this case so I will chime in here...

She is correct that TSP 7.0(1) adds new logic that forces the port to unregister and stay unregistered until it is freed up by the TTS engine. There also was a custom dll that we built for Ginger which had improved error handling. With the new dll, exceptions thrown by the TTS process are handled which means the port wouldn't lock in the first place. That code is available in 4.0(2) and will be in 3.1(6) when it is released.

(Ginger, please let me know if you are still seeing exceptions that we aren’t catching.)

My advice for you is to request a hotfix for CSCdz48747 (built off the 3.1(5) branch) from the TAC engineer if they determine that you are seeing the same issue. The symptom is an AvTTS_MC 1016 WavOutClose failed error message in the application log.
