port security for IP phone

Hi,

I saw some networkers slides that says that port security requires 3 mac addresses. In the latest version of the SRND, it says 2 mac addresses should be sufficient.

Can someone help to clarify this ?

THanks

Re: port security for IP phone

When using port security be sure to allow for the IP phone MAC address and the associated PC MAC address. If in a shared environment (notebook PCs connecting to same phone) allow the correct number of MAC addresses to accomodate your needs.

If you have a specialized network config that would be an exception, otherwise two should suffice.

A good practice is to also disable the PC port on phones that have one if it is not intended to be used (do this in CCM admin).
