Are the ports on Unity really physical ports or is it just licenses? If it is all IP what is really controlling the number of concurrent users?

With old analog VoiceMail systems if I needed to add more ports (to allow additional people to listen to their messages concurrently) I would have to physically add more voice boards (ports) to the box. Is Unity like the old VoiceMail systems in that respect?

It's just a license... even in the old days with analog ports on cards it was still a license. If you got a 4 port key and installed a 16 port D160 card, we'd still only let you use 4 ports on that card. Same deal in IP land... you can configure as many lines as you want but we'll only let you use as many as you have licensed.

So then I am not adding any hardware at all to go from 4 to the maximum 48 ports???!!!

not in IP land... joy.

Of course we still support legacy switch integrations and those still require analog voice cards.
