principal inbound number ringing many phones ?

We're setting up a demonstration system for one of our customers who wishes to migrate his current telephony system to a full VoIP system.

They key issue is the VoIP system to act like the current traditionnal POTS

system regarding the handling of the main inbound number: any call placed

to this number must ring all the phones within a choosen set (much like

a "shared line"). The 1st person to pick up his phone answer the call.

Subsequent calls incoming to this main number must ring the others (free)

phones of the set (which "shared line" doesnt do).

Using a pilot point/hunt group is not acceptable for our customer cause it only rings 1 phone at a time.

Any configuration solution to solve this problem or 3rd party software that could handle this ?

Cisco TAC answer = you cannot do this ...

Re: principal inbound number ringing many phones ?

the way we got around this was to have multiple shared lines (on 7960's) ie you have 5 phones on each of these phones you have 6 lines the main number comes in on the 1st line and the 1st ext picks it up another call comes in and is forwarded to the 2nd line, the 2nd ext picks this up and so on. all 6 lines on each ext are shared and will ring on every phone. this is not ideal but is does work.
