Problem installing Export Utility

I am trying to install the 3.1 Export Utility on a 2.4.6 system. The install fails with the following message:
ActiveX component can't create object
An unexpected setup error has occured!

How do I proceed?

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

I'm assuming you mean export... Which version of export are you installing? Try grabbing the latest version off CCO here:

http://www.cisco.com/cgi-bin/tablebuild.pl/unity-util

there were some goofy setup bugs floating around in some older versions that might be biting you.

Same thing. I am also unable to install the "Unity Uninstall" program. Same error.

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

There's just a couple of benigh DLLs being registered by both those problems (they both expect MDAC and the Unity libraries to be on and installed so it's not that many files). I'm curious if maybe your ATL.DLL is hosed and you can't register any DLLs properly or something.

As a test try installing the SubscriberInformation Dump off of AnswerMonkey.net. This uses the same files (minus a couple) but it sticks it's own copy of ATL.DLL on there in it's private directory to register an older DLL. I'm curious if this goes on OK.

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

wow... that's very strange. SubscriberInformation dump is copying on two files that get registered:

MSCOMCTRL.OCX (common controls for VB applications)
COMDLG32.OCX (common dialog controls for VB applications)

That's it. If it's coughing up a hairball on one of those your system is in a very strange state.

Try to find the COMDLG32.OCX and MSCOMCTRL.OCX on your system (should be in system32 but not necessarily). Find all copies and see if you can register them from the command line ("regsvr32 comdlg32.ocx")...

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

Ok, I only found COMDLG32.OCX and was able to register it. There was no MSCOMCTRL.OCX anywhere on the system. Could that be the problem?

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

Ok. I found MSCOMCTL.OCX (not MSCOMCTRL.OCX) and was able to register that.

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

hmmm... does the setup choke right off the bat, after you select an install location, after file copy? Man... it's not doing much other than copying files and registering those two OCX controls...

it's possible the VB runtime library is not on your system any longer (Unity installs it) and that's causing a problem but I kinda doubt that.

If both those files are registered for the subscriber information dump you should be able to just get the SubInfoDump.exe out of the CAB and run it directly. It'd be interesting to see if you could do that.

It errors right after the
Copying files, Please stand by...
message

Where is the SubInfoDump.exe file? What CAB? How can I verify that the VB runtime libary is there and healthy?

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

I found the Subinfodump.exe and was able to run it. I checked all of the fields, and I recieved no errors. Can I use this file to do an import into 3.1?

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

no, but that verifies that the VB library is there and healthy which is what I was looking for. Very strange that the setup is choking like that... it's a Visual Studio generated automatic setup... been using those for years with no problem.

The export copies several more files on you'll need, mostly for the DAO database access needed... I'd sure like to know what's going on with your system but I don't have any snappy ideas off hand. You can do this by hand by unpacking these files from the CAB and copying them where they need to go I suppose:

EmptyDB.mdb (copy to app path)
COMDLG32.OCX (copy to system32, regsvr32)
TABCTL32.OCX (copy to system32, regsvr32
mscomctl.ocx (copy to system32, regsvr32)
VB5DB.DLL (copy to System32)
msjtes40.dll (copy to System32, regsvr32)
msrepl40.dll (copy to system32, regsvr32)
msrd3x40.dll (copy to system32, regsvr32)
msrd2x40.dll (copy to system32, regsvr32)
mswdat10.dll (copy to system32)
mswstr10.dll (copy to system32)
expsrv.dll (copy to system32)
vbajet32.dll (copy to system32)
msjint40.dll (copy to system32)
msjter40.dll (copy to system32)
msjet40.dll (copy to system32, regsvr32)
dao360.dll (copy to system32, regsvr32)
StreamHelp.dll (copy to app path, regsvr32)
FullDBExport.exe (copy to app path)

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

Good News and Bad News

Bad News: I followed your instructions all of the dll's and ocx's were accepted but one. MSREPL40.DLL reported the following error:

msrepl40.dll was loaded, but the DllRegisterServer entry point was not found.
DllRegisterServer may not be exported, or a corrupt version of msrepl40.dll may be in memory. consider using PView to detect and remove it.

Good News: I ran fulldbexport.exe and it didnt report errors! Does this mean it worked? The log looked good and the generated undityDB.mdb was the right size.

Re: Problem installing Export Utility

Should be cool... toss the log to my corporate email address and I'll eyeball it real quick.
