PSTN gateway with NM-HDV for IP Telephony network

In a remote location of a customer, ISDN PRI link is not available for voice termination on the PSTN gateway router (3600/2600).

Can I choose a Channelized E1 (E1 R2) link for termination on the router, and get the PSTN gateway functionality? Can the same network module be used for E1-R2 signalling for voice connectivity? (NM-HDV-1E1 data sheet mentions support for E1-R2 /CAS signaling)

Are there any features of IP Telephony lost between an ISDN PRI line and E1-R2 line??

Re: PSTN gateway with NM-HDV for IP Telephony network

Hi!

Yes, you can use E1 R2 for you PSTN connectivity. Currently, I have an installation with this kind of setup. I have a 3661 router with NM-HDV02E1 module installed with one E1 port connected to the PSTN. This setup is working.

ISDN PRI and E1 R2 have different signalling. But as far as our setup is concerned, we were able to perform everything. Outgoing calls, incoming calls, IDD/NDD functions, and fax are able to run.
