Re: public distribution list

Unity uses Exchange to deliver the message to distribution lists and Exchange uses a single source messaging scheme (i.e. a message will only be sent to a server once and a reference to that message is added to the inbox for each user.

Here's an earlier post that goes into some detail about how this process works:

Re: public distribution list

Hi,

i'm not using any exchange server because we are running on domino. For the time being, we are using only Unity to broadcast all audio message to the users.

I would like to know more details on the process of how Unity will handles large distribution of audio file to all users without the helps of exchange.

Thank you

Re: public distribution list

If you're using Unity, you're using Exchange. Even if you're running in a voice mail only, we use Exchange as our back end message store for now (native Domino support is comming in 3.2 next year). As such we rely on Exchange to deliver messages to subscribers in all cases and the single instance store mechanism described in that post I linked in my first reply applies in all cases, even VM only configs.
