do we require the below command if the dsp is installed on the main board like the 2800 series..
voice-card slot
if not then how is the pvdm2 enabled on the board?
thanks

No commands are needed, the module is activated automatically.

so can we say that;
-if the pvdm is installed in a network module, it has to be activated by using the command
(config)#voice-card 0
(config-voicecard)#dsp services dspfarm
-and if it is installed in the main board like in the 2800/3800 series, we dont need any of the above commands.
is my understanding right?
thanks

DSPs on the motherboard or on a network module will automatically be used for voice termination.
For either to do media resources (transcode, conference, MTP) you need to add the dspfarm command.

Hi nick,
so what does the below command does
(config)#voice-card 0
(config-voicecard)#dsp services dspfarm

Command reference has this to say:
To configure digital-signal-processor (DSP) farm services for a particular digital T1/E1 packet voice trunk network module (NM-HDV) or high-density voice (HDV) transcoding/conferencing DSP farm (NM-HDV-FARM), use the dsp services dspfarm command in interface configuration mode. To disable services, use the no form of this command.
In short - it allows you to use DSPs from your NM-HDV to / from other slots. Basically, it allows cards to use DSPs for voice termination across slots. If all your cards are using the DSPs on the motherboard in voice-card 0, this command is entirely unnecessary.
It doesn't stop everyone from putting it there anyways.

from your second paragraph;
"Basically, it allows cards to use DSPs for voice termination across slots"
-does this means 'dsp services dspfarm' is the command to enable voice termination?
-from a Document ID: 91863, i could see voice-card 0

Seems like your only intent in this discussion is to affirm that the command is needed for voice termination.
If that makes you happy, we call tell you that.
But is not the truth.

There is ONE condition that requires a command for voice termination.
If you have a NM-HDV or other NM module with built in DSPs, and do not have DSPs on the motherboard, but still have voice cards on the motherboard slots, you need this command.
It's a very rare scenario. You don't need any commands.

No. As said above, no commands are ever necessary.
