Question about DC?

Hi all,

If more than one domain controller in a Unity system. Do I need to extend the schema on all DC/GCs (one domain only) before installation of Unity. Once the first DC is down, will the Unity work fine with additional DC (can retrieve, leave and delete the voice message and change settings thru' the admin page)?

Thanks for explaination.

Regards

Re: Question about DC?

With AD the schema is consistent across the entire forest. This means that changes are made to one DC only (the schema master) and they replicated to all other DCs.

Unity will only work with a single DC/GC. To find the best possible Unity makes a query to the RootDSE during Configuration Setup. (That's the part were you hook it up to the mail server.) The values returned are written to the registry and don't change without manual intervention. So adding a second DC/GC doesn’t do much to help Unity today.

Thanks,

Re: Question about DC?

Hi Keith,

Thx for your reply but Do you mean that additional DCs can not provide redundancy (prevent from single point of failure) for Unity system because Unity only work with a single DC/GC. right?

Re: Question about DC?

Correct -- additional DC/GCs don't provide redundancy to Unity because we don't have a method to fail from one to the other.

Re: Question about DC?

Hi Keith,

If I need to install a failover Unity system.

Is there any method to prevent from single point of failure for the Unity failover system? Thanks a lot.
