Register Phone With Another CallManager

We have multiple sites with their own CallManagers. I am trying to get one of my phones to register with another one of the CM servers. There is a WAN link between the sites. I added the phone to the other CM and I manually configured the TFTP setting on my phone. What all do I need to manually configure on my phone to get it to register with the other CM? Thanks!

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Disable DHCP

Edit IP address manually

Edit subnet mask manually

Edit default gtwy manually

Edit TFTP address.

press the save softkey

that should do.

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

That didn't seem to do it. The network is setup with managed switches with IPs on different subnets. Any more ideas?

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

How are you trying to register this with the other callmanager ? Auto registration or manual ?

Have you turned on Auto reg on remote callmanager ?

Do you have proper routing setup between the two subnets ?

I would put a pc in the phone's subnet and see if you can route from your PC to remote subnet. (Ping should do)

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

I already created the phone in the remote CallManager with the MAC of the phone I have here. Yes, routing is setup because I can pull up the web pages for a remote phone from my location.

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Mike,

A few things I may check.

a. no typos in the mac-address that you added.

b. check if you used the correct phone type (7960,7940) when you added this in callmanger)

What message do you get on the phone ?

Does it just cycle through "Configuring IP", "Configuring VLAN"... ?

Can you check if the phone pulled a list of Callmanagers (option 21 or 22)

Also are both Callmanagers the same version ? If yes what version ?

Are you using DNS names on Callmanager (Server menu) rather than ip addresses ? If yes are the phones able to resolve the addresses..

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Is it pulling dhcp correctly at the remote site?

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

It sounds like you could be asking how to make the phone go active to a different CM w/in a single cluster. If that is the case, just create another Call Manager Group (System > CM Group) w/ the correct server order. Reference that group in a new device pool, and assign that phone to your new device pool. The phone will go active to your new top preference in your group.

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

I can't do it with a differen CM Group because it's a different CM cluster.

All the IP information I gave above is the information from a phone currently configured on my LAN and one configured on the remote LAN. So how can I get a phone on my LAN to register on the CM on the remote LAN? Like I said, I already created the device on the Remote CM. I'm assuming all I need to do is configure the phone on my local LAN. Thanks for everyone's help so far!

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Mike,

You are correct that you need to configure your local phone. Can you answer the questions i asked you in my previous post ?

I confirmed the MAC is correct.

Yes, I have the correct model.

What message do you get on the phone ?

The phone just cycles through a whole bunch of different messages.

Does it just cycle through "Configuring IP", "Configuring VLAN"... ?

The phone just cycles through a whole bunch of different messages.

The phone still shows the local CM servers

Also are both Callmanagers the same version ? If yes what version ?

Local is 4.1(3)sr1

Remote is 4.1(3)sr3a

Are you using DNS names on Callmanager (Server menu) rather than ip addresses ? If yes are the phones able to resolve the addresses..

DNS names. Not sure, but I can ping the names from a computer.

Here's how I currently have the local phone manually configured:

IP Address 172.22.18.200

Default Router 172.22.18.1

Subnet Mask 255.255.254.0

TFTP Server 1 172.22.16.16

TFTP Server 2 172.22.16.18

DNS Server 1 10.248.0.30

DNS Server 2 10.248.112.19

DNS Server 3 10.248.0.30

Operational VLAN Id 221

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Mike,

Go to option 33, erase the phone config.

Choose DHCP disabled - Yes

Choose DHCP ip address released Yes.

Do not press save softkey yet.

Edit IP address manually

Edit subnet mask manually

Edit default gtwy manually

Edit TFTP address.

press the save softkey

Its recommended to use Server IPs rather than names. If your DNS is dead (one fine morning), phones that reboot will have a problem reaching the servers.

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

I followed your instrustions and didn't press Save till after I put the IP information in. After I press save after configuring the IP information, the phone resets and goes back to DHCP.

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Mike, While you are configuring the ip address and all that manually, the phone is still cycling through DHCP renewal process after a timeout period. I think if you dont key in the static ip, mask , gateway and Tftp with in a particular time, it will default to dhcp. It will take some time to get up to speed.

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

So please review my local phone IP config and my remote IP phone config and let me know what settings to use on my local phone that I want on the remote CallManager. Thanks!!

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

Just change the TFTP on local phone to 172.22.16.16

Bronze

Re: Register Phone With Another CallManager

No luck. Did the erase config, turned DHCP off, changed the TFTP and hit the Save softkey. Phone rebooted and came up on the local CM.
