You'll want to get the SDK, as it has the conversion utility that converts gif files to the CIP format expected by the IP Phone.
There are a number of threads in this forum discussing the display of company logos, which include sample source code. Do a search of the Voice and Video forums for "company logo" or "idle url" and that should return a list of threads that may help you (the search box at the top right of this page).
Of course, the SDK will be helpful for this as well, since it has the conversion utilities. There is also a book on developing services for the Cisco IP Phones: "Developing Cisco IP Phone Services: A Cisco AVVID Solution" by Cisco Press.

Not sure what you mean by the services header. Did you specify x and y coords of 0? If your graphics covers the whole screen area 133x65 (with the exception of the top line showing the date/time etc, and prompt at the bottom), you shouldn't see the Services header, unless I'm missing something...

The below trick might come handy when you have to add a new node to a cluster but you don't have or is unsure of the security password for the publisher. This procedure has been around for ages.
1) Login into the CLI of the Publisher.
