Router Keep Freezing

I have a Cisco 2851 router supporting Cisco Call Manager, IP Natting, and VPN. Every once in a while router freezes, and the only way to bring it up by cold rebooting. See below the "Error Log" I captured from Console. The current IOS is "c2800nm-spservicesk9-mz.123-11.T7.bin".

As of now, no problems are reported at the release so I don't if it is an IOS issue or something else.

Has someone experienced this problem?

Thanks,

Re: Router Keep Freezing

Looks like a memory problem. Does the router meet the minimum memory requirements for the IOS and feature set you are running? If so, is replacing the memory an option?

Re: Router Keep Freezing

Let me ask you this, is it just one router or do you have a number of routers doing this? When did it start? I had this same issue, same error;

Aug 19 13:49:31: %SYS-2-MALLOCFAIL: Memory allocation of 281 bytes failed from 0x80615644, alignment 0

2005-08-19 09:49:32 Local7.Critical *.*.*.* 72: Pool: Processor Free: 980 Cause: Memory fragmentation

2005-08-19 09:49:32 Local7.Critical *.*.*.* 73: Alternate Pool: None Free: 0 Cause: No Alternate pool

I created a TAC case on it ;However, the Cisco Engineer wanted a show tech, show mem. Now normally I would supply this but when the router gets into this state we could not console in nor telnet and the only way to get in was to reboot.

After much trouble shooting we setup a sniffer and found the culprit, one of our monitoring platforms ,ANO by Computer Associates, was updated and it was sending out snmp traffic to a curtain port on the router which caused it to go into this state. We had about 50 routers going into this state. I can not recall what the actual port the snmp traffic was hitting.

I recommend you capture the traffic going to your router.

Hope this helps.
