Simple Question about E1

1- For 2811 Gateway(VoIP only): does VWIC-2MFT-E1 (2-port RJ-48 multiflex trunk VWIC—E1)means that i have the ability to have 2 E1 links? 60 Channels(30 for each ports) or do i need another Card to have 2 E1? so i just have to plug two RJ48 Cables on the E1 Cards and the Other End on the Multiplexers?

2-How can i configure the second E1 if already have one E1 working?

3-Two-port version supporting E1 balanced and unbalanced lines

What is the difference between balanced and unbalanced lines?

Your configuratuion will depend if you are using ISDN PRI signalling or R2 signalling.

Re: Simple Question about E1

Im using ISDN PRI.

what about question 1????

Re: Simple Question about E1

1 . you can put two e1s depending on how many DSPs you have.

2. you can simply configure the pri-group command under the second E1 controller.

Re: Simple Question about E1

A sample output of sh voice dsp group all looks like below (this is from a 2821 i have with me here). Not sure what IOS you are using. Slot 0 is the onboard slot and I have a PVDm2-32 on board, which shows two DSPs each 16 channels. This would be sufficient for 1 E1.

PCPMG-CME#sh voice dsp group all

DSP groups on slot 0:

dsp 1:

State: UP, firmware: 8.2.0

Max signal/voice channel: 16/16

Max credits: 240

Group: FLEX_GROUP_VOICE, complexity: FLEX

Shared credits: 240, reserved credits: 0

Signaling channels allocated: 16

Voice channels allocated: 0

Credits used: 0

dsp 2:

State: UP, firmware: 8.2.0

Max signal/voice channel: 16/16

Max credits: 240

Group: FLEX_GROUP_VOICE, complexity: FLEX

Shared credits: 240, reserved credits: 0

Signaling channels allocated: 7

Voice channels allocated: 0

Credits used: 0

DSP groups on slot 1:

This command is not applicable to slot 1

DSP groups on slot 2:

This command is not applicable to slot 2

0 DSP resource allocation failure

Also it looks like you have transcoding configured. Depending upon how many resources have allocated for that, the number of DSPs available to you to configure 60 channels for two E1s will be short.

Re: Simple Question about E1

I didnt get that command, any way back to question 2:

When i plug one end of the cable in the second port of E1 card and the other end in the multiplexer, what should i do next? go to config mode and type

pri-group timeslots 1-31 , is that all?
