Site-to-Site VPN Encription and VoIP

I have a potential customer that has an existing VPN doing 3DES encription. No problem.

Now they are looking at adding to this VoIP in a Toll-Bypass configuration and this raises a red flag in the back of my mind.

How will the encription in the routers affect the quality of the voice? Am I required to use G.711?

Has anyone done this?

Suggestions appreciated.

We've done this, works pretty well. We use g.729a

I am doing this as well. G.729 at the remote site with 3DES. Toll quality calls all around. When doing your bandwidth calculations for the voice make sure to adjust for the additional info on the packet due to encapsulation and note that you will not be able to use cRTP either. Works great.
