No. We don't talk directly to the SMTP port number for things like notification to text pagers and forwarding email to the fax server etc... we hand the message to the local MTA on the Exchange server on our box and it takes care of routing that message where it needs to go (out the IMC in this case). As long as Exchange is happy, we're happy.
The exception to this is in the GAEN feature we can connect directly to an external SMTP port to send emergency messages if we're going down hard. GAEN is not supported in 2.4.6 (you'll see the service there but it's disabled since it had a few problems) but it will be there in 3.0. This would be a rare configuration but something to keep in mind down the road.
