Softphone - Echo on remote end

I have a user with an IBM Thinkpad & Softphone. He is using internal microphone & speakers.

All sounds ok on his end, but the called party hears an echo of the conversation.

Is this a hardware issue on the laptop, or a software issue (with some possible resolution)?

Re: Softphone - Echo on remote end

Hi,

You'd be better with a headset/mic combination, as the mic and on the laptop will "replay" the output from the laptop speakers. It sounds terrible for the called party.

HTH.

Re: Softphone - Echo on remote end

I agree. We have over 400 users and growing that use Softphone. Everyone uses a headset. One with a Noise Canceling mic as well.

Plantronics has a USB adapter DA50 that you can attach a regular Plantronics Headset. Then you have more options on the type of headset depending on the user.

We also use the Plantronics DSP100 which is a USB Headset and Noise Canceling mic.

You can use a Headset with your current soundcard only if it supports FULL Duplex
