Softphone over VPN

I am attempting to install the IP Softphone application on my home pc connecting to a call manager across the internet using cisco's vpn client software. I have the softphone installed, and when I start it, I can select the lines I configured on the Call Manager. However, the lines do not show up on the softphone, and I am unable to place or receive calls.
