Hi all,
I've found an unusual problem with speed dials under ccme 4.0(3). I have a 7970 with 2 7914's attached. The first 7 buttons on the 7970 are used for lines, I have left button 8 unused so it can accommodate a speed dial.
Buttons 9 through to 36 are used for monitor/dss. When I enter the speed dial command under the ephone it does not appear on button 8. Config is below:
ephone 1
description Operator
ephone-template 3
username "xxx" password xxx
mac-address 0015.632A.EABC
speed-dial 1 *01 label "Night Service"
type 7970 addon 1 7914 2 7914
no auto-line
button 1:1 2:2 3:85 4:86
button 5:87 6:88 7:89 9:3
button 10:95 11:96 12:97 13:98
button 14:99 15m22 16m23 17m25
button 18m24 19m21 20m19 21m11
button 22m13 23m27 24m50 25m51
button 26m52 27m53 28m54 29m55
button 30m56 31m57 32m58 33m59
button 34m60 35m61 36m62
I tried configuring this on a 7961 and everything works fine until you assign a button AFTER the one you have left blank for the speed dial. For example, this works, with the speed dial appearing on line 6:
ephone 22
mac-address 0017.E0DA.2324
speed-dial 1 *01 label "Night Service"
type 7961
button 1:22 2m1 3m2 4m3
button 5m11
This does NOT work, I would expect the speed dial to appear on line 5:
ephone 22
mac-address 0017.E0DA.2324
speed-dial 1 *01 label "Night Service"
type 7961
button 1:22 2m1 3m2 4m3
button 6m11
Basically this means I can not use the spare button on my 7970 as a speed dial, which is a bit of an annoyance. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them!
Thanks.

Hi Greg,
I am sure that I saw a bug related to this exact problem. I am not in the office right now, but I will search later today and post it for you. Or you could have a look through the Bug Toolkit.
Take care!

Hi Greg,
I did have a look for this bug, but I'm sorry I didn't write down the number :( The workaround was somewhat lame and indicated that Speeddial keys be left to the last buttons with no Line Buttons or Monitor Buttons configured after.
Hope this helps!

Hi Rob,
Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'll have a browse through the bug toolkit and see if I can dig up the bug you mention. You are quite right, that is a very lame workaround ;)
I'll post my finding here, thanks again.
Greg.

Can't find the bug but have solved the problem another way. Rather that making the night service a speed dial I assigned the night service number to an ephone-dn. I then assigned this ephone-dn to a monitor button on the 7970 so when you hit the button it has the same effect as a speed dial due to the DSS functionality of the monitor feature.
ephone-dn 111
number *01
label Night Service
description Used to enable Night Service
!
ephone 1
description Operator
ephone-template 3
username "operator" password letmein
mac-address 0015.632A.EABC
type 7970 addon 1 7914 2 7914
no auto-line
button 1:1 2:2 3:85 4:86
button 5:87 6:88 7:89 8m111
button 9:3 10:95 11:96 12:97
button 13:98 14:99 15m22 16m23
button ........
Work perfectly.
