SRST Call manager cluster

we have a remote site that gets dial tone from a cluster across the wan.

the rmote site has srst running on a 3620. when the primary call manager gets rebooted the phones register to the router with srst rather than to the secondary call manager.

how can this be setup to they first try to go the ccm02 and then to srst if both ccm's cant be reached?

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

The order should be determined first by the Callmanager group that the phone uses. You can verify what callmanagers those are on the phone by looking at the settings on the phone. It should list the two callmanagers.

What should happen when the primary fails, then the phone should try to register to the secondary. If that fails then it should try to register to the default gateway ( which is also your SRST box).

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

thank you for your reply. i relaize the phone should register to the secondary however it is not. The phone lists only one call manager. why does it not recognize the second. The cluster is configured and replicating

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

Make sure that you have created a CM Group that includes both callmanagers. This is done from the "System" pull down menu and selecting "Cisco Callmanager Group". After you created a CM Group with both servers, then you want to create a "Device Pool" that uses the CM Group that you just created. Then your phones need to be assigned to the "Device Pool" that you created. Reset the phones and check the network configuration on the phone. You should see both CM's listed.

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

the group has both call managers -a device pool is created and all phones are assigned to the device pool. this has been configured for several weeks and the phones have been reset many times. On the phones it says

call manager 1

ccm01

call manager 2

standby

i appreciate the reply

any other ideas?

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

This may sound stupid but do the IP phones at the remotes have IP connectifity to the second call manager?

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

yes they have ip connectiviity.

When they lose connectivity to the call manager they must go through the 3640 thats doing srst to get to to the secondary ccm but they just register to it instead.

Re: SRST Call manager cluster

Just properly configure DNS - even on the phone (look at 'domain-name' parameter).

Phone should can resolve callmanager name - if cannot it use tftp address as only callmanager (and srst).
