Re: Standard Call Testing Parameters

Hi,

The question is a little vague. Which parameters should be consider where? On IPSLA-enabled router? There are so many things to look at:

Data sent and received

Jitter

Latency

Lost packets

Call Origination/destination

Date and time

Average Jitter

Congestion

Asymmetric routing

Broadcast traffic

Burst Density

Call failure

Signal

ACOM

ERL

T1/E1 Bearer Channel utilization

Voice gateway type (analog, digital)

Active/recent calls by phone

Active /recent calls by gateway

Device CPU Utilization

Delay

Device did not respond

Down recently

High hop count

Incomplete path

Insufficient bandwidth

Jitter buffer loss

Memory utilization

MOS estimate

No connectivity

No likely causes

Phone down

Recent error

Unstable routing

Re: Standard Call Testing Parameters

There is not a clearly defined standard test plan or use cases to follow. You need to defined that or develop a use case base on best practices.

This link hints at some of these things:

http://www.infosys.com/voip/Quality-Assurance-for-IP-Services.pdf

So if you are using Cisco's VoIP gears on your network, you will look to Cisco's best practices for delivering VoIP. But as of now, I am not aware of a standard body like the IETF that defines testing methodologies for VoIP on a carrier's network.

Hope this helps.
