Swap Two Telephones (7960+7914) in Call Manager?

I have two 7960 telephones that both have 7914 units attached.

One has a problem with a specific non-supported headset unit while the other works fine with it.

I'd like to swap the two hardware setups.

Since both are fully programmed (completely different from each other) and currently in use it'd be easiest if I could somehow swap the programming and user association in Call Manager.

Is there a way to do this?

My current information tells me I need to remove both sets of current programming, swap the associations, and then rebuild all the line programming.

It seems like there should be an easier way.

Thanks.

Re: Swap Two Telephones (7960+7914) in Call Manager?

This is possible with a little trickery. You can go to the phone configuration pages and swap the MAC addresses on each phone. Try this:

1. On the first phone, record the MAC address.

2. Change the MAC to a bogus one, like ABCDABCDABCD. This is necessary because you can't have the same MAC assigned to two phones.

3. On the second phone, record the MAC address.

4. On the second phone, replace its MAC address with the MAC you recorded from the first phone.

5. On the first phone, replace the bogus MAC with the second phone's MAC.

6. Reset both phones, they should boot up with each other's configurations.

Note that you cannot do this with phones of differing types, for instance, you couldn't do this between a 7960 and a 7940.
