System Not Available

A client of ours reports:

"We have had a couple cases where, for whatever reason, the unity box can't talk to our exchange server - and when a caller calls in and gets the unity box, it says 'system not available' - is there a way we can have that condition reported somewhere?"

Any ideas?

This sounds like the "fail safe" message... it should say "I'm sorry, I can't talk to you now, please try your call again later". Is that the guy you're talking about? Whenever this happens there should be an event log entry written to the application event log saying what caused the fail safe to trigger. If the Exchange mailstore you're on is off line you should not hear that, you'd hear a prompt telling you the email server is off line and allow you to get voice mail left since the outage.
