TTS session with Call Manager

We have a recently installed Call Manager 3.0(8) system with Unity 2.4.6. Everything works on the system except for the TTS sessions for e-mail. The system informs us that we have a new e-mail message, it tells us who the message is from, but then continues on WITHOUT reading the message. I have the G729a codec installed on the Unity server, but it didn't work before installing it either. I have also tried using both 711 and 729 on the Call Manager server. 729 causes the Call Manager to become EXTREMELY garbled. Any ideas?

Edited by tcoffman on 5/3/01 01:14 PM.

If you're using g729a this is a known problem (the TTS engine spits out at G711 and it comes in under the conversion radar). We have a fix for this forthcoming in the next patch release of Unity 2.4.6 (build 115). I'll post a note here when it's available.

If you're not, a different issue is at play and we'll need to take a closer look.

Just to close the loop on this for our viewers at home, this turned out to be a problem with the setup where we’re not handling switching TTS engines smoothly. In this case the site had RealSpeak installed (i.e. as a demo) and run an upgrade where the key was set to the TTS3000 engine instead. All the right stuff gets registered but we’re not updating the voice library to use for each of the languages.

As such the ENU (US English) key was set to use the “FEMALE” voice which is the RealSpeak voice. When we went to spin a TTS session up we handed the text and the voice to use off to the TTS3000 engine and it doesn’t have a voice named “FEMALE” so it drops out.

The fix was to go into the registry at HKLM\Software\Active Voice\TTS\Initalization\Default Speakers\ and change the “ENU” key to “Michael” (which is the default voice for TTS3000). Reboot and you’re flying right.

Question: with the 2 port demo build of Unity 2.4.6, does the default TTS engine for Female instead of the standard "included with" voice?

thanks,
John Dammann

The default TTS engine with the 2 port version is RealSpeak and it is configured to use the Female speaker as the voice by default (I believe that's the only voice it supports out of the box).

In this response you mention a new patch - build of Unity about to become available.

What is the current build for 2.4.6? 102 or higher?

Where can I obtain the newer builds since the Cisco acquisition?

I have searched CCO - and all I have found so far is the 2.4.6 Release Notes.

Thanks

The current shipping version of Unity is 2.4.6 build 102. The next patch version has not yet been released, I’ll post something out here when it’s available. I’ll be sure to include instructions on how to get hold of it when I do…
