Tweetchat - CCNP Voice

Here's the transcript from the tweetchat

Network_Keith: VoIP new bee here but a question I've always had were the partitions & calling search spaces. Could you elaborate please?

kwallaceccie : A partition is a collection of dialable destinations. A Calling Search Space is a collection of Partitions. For example, you could assign the 9.[2-9]XXXXXX Route Pattern to the LOCAL Partition, and put that in the LOCAL CSS. The LOCAL CSS could then be assigned to a phone to allow them to make local calls.

Network_Keith: That makes a lot of sense & seems so simple now that you've explained it. I've got a lot of reading to do! Thanks!

CiscoPress:  Do you want to start us off by lettings us know what's the first CCNP Voice exam one should take?

I would take CVOICE 1st. It's a good foundation in voice gateways that will be valuable in CIPT1, CIPT2, and TVOICE.

raulph:  Do you think Cisco will be including video on the CCNP Voice, or a new path will be created?

kwallaceccie: Great question! My guess is that a new track will be created, but I haven't heard anything official on that.

raulph : Thanks, I thought it would be a lot to add to the voice track. Hope it is a new track.

What’s new in CCNP Voice?

kwallaceccie : CCNP Voice focuses on the 8.0 version of CUCM. One of the big new features is SAF/CCD.

rammany: How does line CSS overwrite device CSS...what technology?

@rammany You can have a CSS assigned to both a phone and a line. These CSSs contain partitions that contain destinations. The most specific pattern wins. For example, 50XX would beat 5XXX, even if its assigned to device CSS, and 5XXX was in a line CSS.

cisco_support:  Can you explain what SAF does?

kwallaceccie: It's a new feature in CUCM 8.0. It allows routers to advertise services. One such service is Call Control Discovery (CCD), which advertises phone numbers, using EIGRP. Look out GATEKEEPER! SAF and CCD could take over.

PearsonITCert:  A question we often get at @pearsonitcert is... does CCNP Voice cover everything in the CCIE Voice lab?

kwallaceccie : Almost, the CCIE Voice lab covers Cisco Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX), which is not covered in CCNP Voice.

cisco_support:  How does the difficulty of the CCIE Voice lab compare to other CCIE labs?

kwallaceccie: All CCIE Labs are super difficult. However, CCIE Voice has a lower pass rate than Route/Switch or Security. The average number attempts for the CCIE Voice Lab is approx. 3.5.

scottljordan: I really like your cvoice book. Any plans for doing a tvoice or capps book?

kwallaceccie: Thanks! Here's a link to the book:http://t.co/96ocwory.I don't have any plans to write a TVOICE or CAPPS book, but I do have a set of videos covering all of CCNP Voice.http://twitter.com/kwallaceccie Check out CCNP Voice LiveLessons : http://t.co/xBktV6w6.

scottljordan : Thanks for the info on your ccnp voice videos

jamieshoup76 : So interesting about the #CCIE Voice lab pass rate -- so what about #CCNA Voice exam -- how hard is it really?

kwallaceccie : While no Cisco exam is easy, the CCNA Voice (ICOMM) exam is one of the easiest I’ve taken in years.

raulph :  What would you say are the skills achieved after a CCNP Voice cert?

kwallaceccie: CCNP Voice indicates you can setup a Cisco IP Telephony network from scratch, including gateways (H.323, MGCP, SIP) . Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), and voice messaging (Cisco Unity Connection and Cisco Unity Express).

Appletoch : What else, along with the official cert guides for CCNP, do you recommend for studying?I ask the question because not all topics are covered in the official cert guides! Thanks.

kwallaceccie :There's no substitute for taking an official class from a Cisco Learning Partner (CLP). However, if you're self-studying, Cisco Press books combined with Cisco's SRND documents are great!

CiscoPress :http://twitter.com/Kwallaceccie For those who don't know, what is Presence?

kwallaceccie : CUCM offers “Native Presence,” which allows one phone to monitor the on/off-hook status of another phone. Cisco Unified Presence Server (CUPS) is server-based, and integrates with Cisco Unified Personal Communicator (CUPC). CUPC can act as an instant message client, make audio/video calls, integrate with voicemail, and web-based meetings.

bpmccloskey : Got my CCIE R/S this year & now trying to decided which track to focus on next Voice or Wireless. Any Advice?

kwallaceccie :Congrats on your CCIE R/S! I haven't looked into CCIE Wireless, but I can give a ton of insight on CCIE Voice. I've got 4 free videos offering a strategies for CCIE Voice. Here's the 1st one http://t.co/uXQlMvsl

cisco_support Are CIPT1 and CIPT2 available as a combined exam?

kwallaceccie : CIPT1 and CIPT2 are separate exams. Years ago they were offered as a combined exam, but not anymore.

mohansrao: What are some good study resources for CCNP Voice exams?

kwallaceccie: Your best bet is to take a class from a Cisco Learning Partner (CLP). Also check out Cisco Press’ books on CCNP Voice. Cisco Press also has my CCNP Voice Live Lessons product (72 CCNP Voice training videos). http://t.co/xBktV6w6 #ciscochat

Network_Keith: This is generic, but could you share some study habits that allow you to be so successful

kwallaceccie: I've done a series of videos on The Psychology of Certification available on my website http://t.co/0c2s95ty

cisco_support: Well, time has almost run out. #ciscochat Thank you again @Kwallaceccie for giving some great advice on CCNP Voice! @kwallaceccie Thanks for your time. Let's announce the winners before we leave.

Network_Keith I definitely enjoyed this type of format. Reminds me of IRC, thanks for doing this! #ciscochat
