Unable to release call transfer

CCM 3.3(2) gateway 3640. When external users dial in the receptionist clicks "transfer", dials the internal extension and then click transfer again the call is not released. She has to put the external user on hold, then transfer again. The problem is only intermittent. I have a feeling that it is a problem with their underlying infrastructure rather than the call manager or gateway. They have five switches in a gigastack. Any ideas where the problem is?

It's definitely not a network architecture problem. You'll need to open a TAC case, and provide detailed CCM and SDL traces of an instance where the problem occurred.
