I have a client that is upgrading from Exchange 5.5 to 2000 on Friday and I am upgrading Unity from 3.1(5) to 4.0(3) that day as well. I have read through everythign but I am still a little confused. I would think that i just had to run the setup once the upgrade was done, however, they are building a new box to house Exchange and they are going to migrate data over. Do I need to wait for them to do that before I start my upgrade? I do not want to point to an empty message store or cause any problems in Unity.
there's a chapter in there titled "Upgrading from Exchange 5.5 with Active Directoy to Exchange 2000" that details the steps here - it was written based on tests done with 3.1(5) Unity so it falls into your scenario nicely.
I'd upgrade to Exchange 2000 first and then upgrade to 4.0(3) after you have all that worked out.
