I just put together a quick document on this very topic yesterday... Keep in mind this list is where we're at right now, we may add/remove a property or two but this should give you an idea of where we're at. In short we add very little to the schema, only enough to handling the digital networking features.
Extensions we make to the Schema in Active Directory:
This is a list of the new properties we add to the schema in the global catalog. The User, Contact and Group classes are expanded to include new properties, the Location class is added and all the properties shown are added to that class. All these items are replicated around the entire directory and are used for digital networking features such as addressing lookups, alpha directory searches, transfers, dialing domain support etc See the NetworkingOverview2001 document for more details on that.
