Unity 3.1(5) loosing connection to Exchange message stores

Customer has Unity 3.1(5) running talking to a set of Exchange Servers/message stores.

Customer has done some upgrading on the message stores recently to put the latest software patches on. What they are finding is that Unity is not connecting back up to the message stores once they come back on-line. And the "workaround" right now is to reboot the Unity server. Now good.

What could be stopping Unity from reconnecting when the exchange store comes back on-line? I have read that the AVWm process is supposed to be checking every 15 seconds to see if the servers are there. Is there some time out in play such that if we have not heard back from the exchange server in x-minutes forget about it? Have been searching the web and have not found the magic.

Thanks

Re: Unity 3.1(5) loosing connection to Exchange message stores

Hello -

Does Unity post a message in the application event log that the Exchange server(s) have gone offline - Here is a link that might be a resource for you.

Just curious - is Outlook installed on the Unity server? It should not be as this can result in the same affect you are seeing.

I had one of the engineers check and Outlook Express is installed but not Outlook. Could this still be an issue? From what I know, Outlook Express seems to be installed automaticly with IE.

Does the Unity ever re-connect, or does it just take a while? About how many subscribers, are you servicing on the mailstore? Are they spread across multiple Exchange Servers, multiple mailstores, across Exchange Site?

Unity does not reconnect without manual intervention.

Total subscribers are in the area of 3500 spread across 2 Exchange servers.

While there are two front-end and two back-end Exchange Servers/Message Stores, the customer says that it is not a true Exchange Cluster.

What do you mean by "Unity does not reconnect"? Does it appear to be in "UMR mode" still?
