In a migration scenario. . .
We have several sites using Avaya Intuitys for voice mail networking today.
We are adding several new sites using Unity and the included networking
capability.
The client would like to network both systems together, while keeping the
cost for AMIS licensing (on both Avaya and Unity) under control.
What design makes sense? Do all systems need to be enabled with AMIS?
Or can you have a "bridge" server on the Unity and Avaya sides?

yes, you can have one Unity server in a directory serving as a "gateway" for AMIS messages. Check out the new networking documentation that the pubs folks just release this last week... it has some really good info on AMIS setups (and Bridge info for that matter if you want to leveral OctelNet capabilities) that should tell you what you need to know:

As Jeff mentioned, check out the networking guide for how this works on the Unity side of things. You may also want to investigate what you can do on the Intuity (Audix?) side. It may be necessary to license all of those systems (on the Avaya side) to talk to the single Unity bridgehead server. Also, you may want to check out http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/voice/c_unity/sysreq/31_sysrq.htm#xtocid30 to see which voice mail systems have been qualified as supported for use with Cisco Unity. I see the Avaya Interchange on there but I didn't see any other Ayaya/Intuity products. That doesn't mean it won't work, but you may want to check with Product Marketing about what the process is for getting/adding support for additional AMIS voice mail systems to ensure that you get full support should you choose this solution.

Is Avaya Intuity Audix supported for AMIS integrations. Its not listed in the support list.

If you're interested in this combination, and it's not on the supported list, please contact Product Marketing (Marlowe Fenne or Susie Burns?). There is a process in place for field qualification of AMIS systems to interoperate with Unity which would allow you to do this.
