Unity 3.13 setup 2 failed unable to open SQL conn

I did a new install with the software image downloaded from CCO. I went throught he entire process according to release notes and installation instructions including SQL MSDE SP1 and hot fix, Win2K patch, and NIMDA. After I reboot the server and started the configuration wizard gave me an error "unable to open a SQL connection to the Unity database". I ran syscheck and it shows that it failed on test suite Doh with comments "Unexpected error occured in e:\views\Unity3.1.2.41\un_Doh2\syscheck\DohTests\GetTheDoh.cpp, line:45,hr=:HRESULT 0x80004005.<br>It also failed on Exchange2K test and the Comments are "unable to open a SQL connection to the Unity database"<br><br>First off I did not use E drive to install UNity. The Unity 3.13 image is on my C drive. Where did it refer to drive E? What happens to SQL connection?<br><br>Thanks!<br><br>Chris<br><br>

Re: Unity 3.13 setup 2 failed unable to open SQL conn

the E drive is a reference to the source code paths, not the path to the install on your hard drive (i.e. our build machines have the source for that module on the E drive).

Couple things come to mind. Can you check via the SQL enterprise manager to see if the UnityDB got created at all? This can happen if you're logged in as a domain admin but that admin is not a member of the local admins group. SysCheck should catch that before the install goes through but I think there's still possible loopholes in there if your a member server if memory serves.

If the UnityDB database isn't there at all, you can create it manually using ConfigMgr found in \commserver\. It has a series of radio buttons on it and the updated version now automatically selects the correct configuration script for each one (which is nice). Just run down through all of them from the top through the routing rules configuration and it should create the DB and allow you to try the 2nd part of setup again.

Re: Unity 3.13 setup 2 failed unable to open SQL conn

Here is what I did:
1. I logon on ad AD Domain administrator account, which is also a member of Local Administrators group

2. There is no UnityDB in the SQL Server Enterprise databases.

3. Ran ConfigMgr.exe. It passed the first two scripts -Database schema and Database Extended scripts. But it failed on the third- configure database scheme. I looked at the log and it shows:

Re: Unity 3.13 setup 2 failed unable to open SQL conn

now that the database is there, try running the part 2 setup again and see if it goes through. I don't have a test system handy to bang on here, unfortunately.

Re: Unity 3.13 setup 2 failed unable to open SQL conn

I still do not see the UnityDb database. Where did you see that it was created successfully? maybe I missed it in the log. However, I did go ahead and try the 2nd part of config and still got the same error.
