I actually found a solution at this URL
http://www.cisco.com/warp/customer/788/AVVID/vmdisco30sec.html
my problem was 40 seconds and not 30.
I dont understand why this fixed the issue. Does anyone have any ideas?
What does that command actually do.

Sure, the no mgcp timer receive-rtcp will tell the router not to disconnect the call, even when the rtcp stream stops. By default, if the stream stops in one direction for an extended period (30-45 seconds I think) the call is torn down. When Unity is recording a voice message it does not send any packets to the gateway. So without this command the call is torn down once the timer limit is hit. The same thing would happen if you were to put a normal call on mute.
Hope that helps,
Keith

Thanks, that makes sense now.
I should just make that a command used in all MGCP gateways,or perhhpas set it at the max message length that you allow in unity.
