I've got the drift of what is required - however, in my research I'm convinced that I have seen (and now can't find again) a reference that all of the user failover licenses must be the same type, i.e. all VM or all UM. Can anyone confirm if this is indeed the case? Or can I mix some VM with some UM subscribers?
And on the same subject (ish) - is it really required to upgrade from MSDE to SL2000 Std Ed (per processor) for failover?
Just thought I ask. Regards... Phil.C

yes on both counts. A failover system must be of the same license type (UM or VM) and you can't mix licenses. MSDE doesn't support the replication features we need for failover so yeah, you'll have to get to full SQL 2000.
