Unity AMIS and SMTP networking

Scenario: Unity 3.1(5) primary & failover with SMTP networking and Unity 4.0(1) primary & failover servers with SMTP and AMIS networking. The Unity 4.x servers will be connected to AMIS capable Avaya voicemail systems. Both Unity server pair share the same dialing domain.

Will the subscribers on the Unity 3.x server be able to blind address voicemail users to AMIS users on the Avaya voicemail system thru the Unity 4.x server? What is necessary to accomplish this?

Re: Unity AMIS and SMTP networking

I'm assuming that all Unity servers share the same directory, since you said they are in the same dialing domain. In which case you would be using Digital Networking between the Unity servers, not SMTP networking. If that is the scenario, then it is possible for subscribers on all Unity servers to blind address the AMIS locations. The Unity server with the AMIS locations is referred to as the bridgehead server, please see the Networking Guide for further information. And this section specifically for details on configuring addressing scopes to allow for this addressing functionality.

Re: Unity AMIS and SMTP networking

Actually, they do not share the same directory, Active Directory, that is the reason for SMTP networking versus Digital networking, but are planned to be configured with the same dialing domain to allow subscriber searches between the two systems.

Re: Unity AMIS and SMTP networking

A dialing domain can be a subset of the global directory, but it cannot span global directories. So you will not be able to put these Unity systems in the same dialing domain to allow subscriber searches, you'll need to create SMTP delivery locations for that functionality. More information on Dialing Domains at (the diagrams are helpful in understanding this) And on using and configuring SMTP networking at

If the Unity systems do not share the same directory, then will both need to be configured separately for AMIS. They cannot share the components required for AMIS networking, including the AMIS delivery locations.
