Unity and mailboxes when connecting to Ex2000 and multiple domains

How does Unity handle mailboxes when connecting to Exchange 2000 that has connections to multiple domains ?

The current Exchange network is using Exchange 5.5 but they are upgrading to Exchange 2000 very soon. This is being done in a phased approach and some users will exist on a separate domain before being migrated to the new domain. When Unity is installed some users will still be on a different domain and will be migrated at a later date. How will this affect Unity? Will Active directoty handle all this and make Unity oblivious to the changes ?

Unity 3.X and later can span domains and Exchange Administrative Groups. Unity cannot span Exchange 2000 Routing Groups.

Re: Unity and mailboxes when connecting to Ex2000 and multiple d

The trick here is that in a mixed 55/2K environement, Unity is connected to an Exchange 2000 server and is using AD for directory services and all the Exchange 5.5 boxes are using ADC to push/pull mail user information into AD where Unity gets at it. Unity can log into 55 and 2K mailboxes at the same time, however this requires you jump through a few mailstore permissions hoops to make that fly.

The installation guide has a section dedicated to the permissions setup for 55/2K mixed systems... the install guide for 3.1 can be viewed here:

Thanks for the feedback.

What happens to the user mailboxes as they are migrated from Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 ? Ie. Exchange 5.5 on one domain to Exchange 2000 on the new domain. How does this affect UNITY? As you said in your last post, they use Active Directory to get at the mailbox, so in theory it shouldn't affect Unity.

That's correct. When we go to log into a mailbox we ask AD for it's location and you should be able to move mailboxes without affecting Unity.
