I am installing Unity 2.45 when I get to the part where it wants to enter the password it syas bad password. I logged onto the machine with that username and password, but Unity won't accept the password. Domain and username are correct; all permissions are correct. The user is Excahnge admin, local admin group on Unity etc... What could be the problem?<br><br>Thanks alot<br><br>

The only time I've seen that particular symptom is when you install Exchange 5.5 SP4 and don't reboot before running setup... even though the SP install doesn't say you need to reboot, you do.
If that's not your case, run SysCheckPreinstall real quick (run it off CD #1 on your set) and see what it says. If it comes back clean and a reboot doesn't clear it, the setup PW check is failing for some other reason.
Is this NT 4.0 or Win2K? How long is your PW by the way?

Also, if there's still a problem, check the TEMPU.LOG file (created by setup). It should give you an error code for the PW check failure that would help us run the problem down on this end...

I searched for and could nopt find that log file on harddrives...

really? I'm trying to remember when they changed the name to TEMPU.Log instead of TEMP.LOG in the temp directory... I had thought that was pre 2.4.5. You can check for a temp.log in the as well, just in case.
the only other reason I can think this would fail would be if we couldn't contact the domain controller for that guy. We're actually attempting to change their PW to determine that the guy has the rights necessary (if he can change the PW, he's an admin for that domain).

There is no temp log either. And as I stated on log onto the machine with that domain account into that domain. Where is the disconnect occuring? Thanks

I have SP2 on the Win2K server is that an issue..?

Yeah, we were using TEMPU.LOG in 2.4.5... be sure to check drives other than the one you installed Unity on. By default this log will appear in the install accounts' Documents and Settings\
The setup guys tell me the log is created as soon as you start setup so it should be on there somewhere...
We haven't tested and approved SP2 for general use yet, but several of us are running it in house with no problems (of course we're all testing the new 3.0 and not installing 2.4.5 on them so I can't say it's not an issue for sure).
I'm not sure where the disconnect would be taking place. I need to see the error code to get a better idea of what's going on with that check.

Have you discovered anything, DO you have to use Active Directory? I have an NT4 and Win2K mixed enviornment with NT4 PDC, BDC. The Unity is a WIN2k member server. Thanks

No, you don't need active directory (we don't integrate with active directory until 3.0 is released). I have systems in the lab setup like this and the install works ok.
I really need to get that error code being returned from the PW set attempt in the install to go much further with this...

The problem is that SP2 does not work with 2.45 We uninstalled SP2 and installed SP1 and got past the error.

ouch... good information. I'll pass that on to the QA folks as they're doing their SP2 qualifications.

I am running Win2k. I did not install SP4 for Exchange. I run the syscheck util. And all came back fine. I even tried removing The machine from the Domain and adding it back, ditto for the user account. The password is 8 characters.
