Unity Installation in the UK

Can a Dialogic D/120JCTLS or D/41E PCI be used in the UK or is there a specific board that needs to be installed. The Intel docs seem to indicate that the D/120 can be used? I have seen the D/41 with the "-Euro" tag at the end. Can someone end the confusion? (especially since there is some kind of product hold from Intel on the "new" style board.)

Hello Jake,

The correct 12 port FXO Dialogic (Intel) card for TBR-21 countries (EC+) is the D/120JCT-EURO. For four port FXO, the D/41E-PCI is usable but does not have a TBR-21 compliant front end.

As far as the new product hold is concerned, that is an artifact of logistics and not a technical problem. This "new" style 12 port FXO TBR21 card that Unity is transitioning to is merely "Universal" PCI. This means that it can be used in any PCI or PCI-X slot. Simply put, the relevant difference is capability to operate on either 5Vdc or a 3.3Vdc bus. Despite being uPCI, the card remains at a 33MHz bus clock. If you get the uPCI card, be aware that the PCI slot will automatically slow down to 33MHz (which is okay) AND the slot adjoining it on the same PCI segment will also slow down too, no matter what is in that second slot. For example, if you happened had a 66/100/133MHz PCI/PCI-X RAID ctrlr, NIC, etc. in that other slot, its performance would be severely impacted. Thus is the caveat of uPCI 33MHz cards used in typical OEM server designs.

The D/41E-PCI is transitioning out of the portfolio with the impending release of Unity 4.0. In its place will be two cards -- D/41JCT-LS and D/41JCT-EURO (both uPCI). The latter is TBR-21 and is the card you will want in the UK.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Victor K.
