Unity Upgrade

Hello Everyone,

Here are some Question on Upgrading Unity for both Rev level and Ports.

We currently have Unity 3.1 VM. with 24 port license on a MCS-7835 Server.

The 24 ports are divided into 3 (8 port each) Call Mangers.

The Call Mangers are in different Campus. but have a common Voicemail server.

We would like to add another 8 ports for a 4th call manger in a new site.

My questions are the following,

Will I need to upgrade my server?

Is it best to upgrade Unity to 4.0?

It seems to me from the pricing tool at this site that it would be cheaper for me to purchase an 8 port license and hardware than purchasing the 8 port upgrade to my current system.

Can someone please explain this?

Last how do I go about ordering the upgrade for VM and include the FaxMail user option.

Is FaxMail User option only available for UM software.

Thanks for all the help ?

Pablo

Questions and sales issues, part numbers or pricing justifications will generally not be answered out here. The forum is aimed at technical questions. If you require assistance on those subjects I encourage you to contact your account team or partner.

As far as the server goes, adding ports should be fine. This doc provides data on the supported platforms:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_data_sheet09186a008009267e.html

MCS 7835-733

Previously shipped by Cisco

Up to 32 ports Voice Messaging/Unified Messaging

Cisco Unity version 2.46 and above

IP integration only

MCS 7835-1000

Previously shipped by Cisco

Up to 40 ports Voice Messaging/Unified Messaging

Cisco Unity version 2.46 and above

IP, dual and traditional integrations

Hope that helps,

Keith

Keith,

Thanks for the infomation,

I have a Technical question on our Unity Setup.

Is there a way to share ports on our unity server ?

For Instance currently we have 8 dedicated ports per call Manger.

One port is dedicated strictly for MWI off and on.

One Call Manger handles alot of calls early in the Morning for checking status of Jury Duty.

Sometimes all seven ports are used.

But after 9:00 A.M. we may use at most 3-4 ports in peek periods.

The Other Call Mangers may have peek periods that vary in time.

I would like to know if there is a way to set up 12 ports on the Call Manger Config and Share ports on Unity but still not exceed the 24 port limit on the Unity Side.

Any Ideas or suggestion?

We don't have many subscribers just alot of Call Handlers?

regards

Pablo
