Unity VM and UM on 1 server

Hi,

Is it possible to run Unity VoiceMail and UnifiedMessaging on 1 server.

A customer wants 100 UM users and 200 VM users.

cheers,

Sascha

Yes it's possible, but you need to purchase them as Unified licenses. All client licenses on a UM server must be ordered as UM seats. However you can set up the subscribers so that they are not tied into an existing email account. So in this case if you have a 300 user UM license you can do what you're asking.

Ok,

But if you add a subscriber, a mailbox will be added in the exchange of the client. And then it is UM again?

Or am I thinking at the wrong way?

cheers,

Re: Unity VM and UM on 1 server

You can't have a Unity subscriber without an Exchange mailbox, because Unity uses Exchange for the message store.

The only exception is an 'Internet subscriber', which is basically just a SMTP address that the message gets forwarded to.

The difference between UM and plain VM, is whether or not the mailbox is linked to the domain/email account, and whether or not they use an email client like Outlook to retrieve the messages.

Unified refers to the email and voicemail (and other message types) all sharing the same message store for a user. If the messages are stored in separate mailboxes or accounts, it's not unified.
