Unity wont Start

We have a standalone Unity 2.4.0.120 and the Exchange 5.5 data got corrupted (no backup - of course). We uninstalled Dialogic and Unity (using the Uninstall Tool). We then uninstalled Exchange. After re-installing both Exchange 5.5 and Unity, Unity reports in the Event Log that the "CallControl component failed to initialize" and then stops. All Dialogic cards pass the diagnostic checks.

Can anybody help???

Well... sounds like you got yourself a sick system there. Those errors aren't some simple configuration issue I can work through with you here, there's something more serious going on under the covers there and I don't know what it is - Dialogic card could be going south, wav driver is toast, I don't know. This would be one of those times I'd try installing from scratch.

2.4.0(120) - that takes me back - ah, the memories...

well, I don't have a 2.4.0 install laying around but I do have a 2.4.6 VMWare image I'm looking at here and I believe it should be fairly similar in this regard.

The call control component was a feature that was never finished but somehow managed to find its way into the shipping components of Unity 2.x - it was the beginings of what was going to be a desktop call view type application that would allow you to "pick a lie" for incoming callers, fish people out of your mailbox and other fun stuff (i.e. similiar to features we'd done in OS/2 for the old Repartee line way back in the day).

Anyway... You can remove that component from starting up entirely since it's not necessary at all. You can do this by firing up MaestroTools.exe from the \commserver\ directory.

Once it's running, select the "AvCsMgr Registry Editor tab and in the "Enabled" list on the right you should find "callControl" in the list - select it and hit the arrows to move it to the "Disabled" list. Select to "write registry" at the bottom and then try to start Unity again and see how far you get.

Thanks for your reply.

I did as you suggested and Unity did load. However (is there always a however?) after a couple of calls I started getting MIU errors in the event log and no voice was heard when some ports answered.

The Miu errors are:

Thanks for your help. Your hint re Dialogic card was correct. We reseated them and all was ok. Dont you just hate it when you look for the complicated things and overlook the basics?
