this also corresponds to the same data stored in the Exchange directory for 5.5 when running 3.0. All other data is exclusively in SQL on the local Unity server. In short only information needed by other Unity servers in the organization for message addressing, address book lookups, transfers etc is pushed into Exchange/AD in Unity 3.0.
There are a couple new processes that take care of replicating information from the local SQL server into AD/Exchange as necessary (a different process for 5.5 vs. AD) and pulling information back from Exchange/AD into SQL.
You can run SQL 2000 on any size Unity system... the option for MSDE is there merely as a cost saving mechanism for folks that don't need to high performance of the full SQL 2000 (under 16 ports). If you want to go full SQL 2000 on lower port systems, that's fine.
For over 16 port systems the license is available to install it with Unity. Below that number, you will probably need to get your own copy from MS ro a reseller. Cisco does not sell licenses to MS software not bundled with standard Unity stuff.
