Unity doesn't add new attributes to Exchange 5.5 - we create a new folder (Unity) in the directory and store our location objects there but these objects are merely mail user objects we use for our purposes - Extending the Exchange 5.5 schema is technically possible (though very difficult) but we do not use it - the data we add for subscribers, distribution lists and location objects are all stored on standard Exchange properties.
Short story, nothing Unity does in Exchange 5.5 is going to cause a problem when you decide to upgrade to 2000/2003 later.
