Upgrading CCM 3.3(5) to CCM 4.1.(3)

Can this be done using the database from 3.3(5)? I have made changes to the existing system that would have to be entered by hand again after the upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Upgrading CCM 3.3(5) to CCM 4.1.(3)

Upgrade can be done in two ways

a. using web upgrade exe downloaded from CCO

b. using the 4.1 disks

In your case you can only do the upgrade using option b. YOu cannot use the web upgrade exe.

You should take a bars backup and if possible (a system image of your server, or if server supports drive removal feature). Then insert the 4.1 disks, perform the upgrade. The database will be automatically upgraded. All your existing settings will be retained in the new system.

I might have conveyed my question incorrectly. We are also upgrading hardware as well. Can this still be done using the procedure you cited? Many Thanks.

You will need to use 3.3.5 discs to install 3.3.5 with the same name, ip etc on new server. Take a BARS backup from old server and restore that into new server. (The new server should be built in an isolated network). Then using 4.x discs you can perform the upgrade on the new box.

Re: Upgrading CCM 3.3(5) to CCM 4.1.(3)

That could be two separate tasks.

First I would recommend to upgrade your hardware:

* Install or upgrade your BARS utility, and make a fresh backup.

* Install 3.3(5) on the new hardware

* Restore your databases on the new installed server.

After you make sure everything is up and running, and you have no errors or warnings, you may upgrade your server(s) to 4.1(3).

Why I would recommend doing it this way - your old server may be uncapable to have CallManager 4.1 installed (HDD space, RAM size, unsupported hardware, etc.).

Also, at each stage I would recommend to have one of your SCSI drives pulled form the RAID. In this case if you have any problem during or after the installation, you can always boot from that drive.

Good luck,

Mike

Re: Upgrading CCM 3.3(5) to CCM 4.1.(3)

According to Cisco upgrade Roadmap, 3.3(5) can be upgraded directly to 4.1(3) without intermediate steps. The only concern should be the hardware - it should support 4.1 track.

Good luck,

Mike
