Upgrading MCS-7845 to OS 2000.4.2

Can an MCS running OS 2000.2.7sr8 be upgraded to OS 2000.4.2 directly (followed by the application of the latest service release for 2000.4.2). Would this be recommended? It appears that only the OS 2000.4.2 train is actively being maintained. Hotfixes can still be applied manually for earlier OSes, but the newer HP Insight Manager agents would be beneficial in our environment.

(We have three 7845s and therefore can pull one disk from each mirror before attempting an upgrade).
