The vg248 is an inadequate solution for modems, despite what Cisco marketing says. The product slicks say it's an effective solution to connecting faxes and modems to a Cisco IP telephony system. However, TAC says that you will never get more than 33.6 kbps and it will not work with certain brands to modem.
If you can't read between the lines, yes, I have been burned by this before.
The primary problem for our latest installation was speed. There was an AS/400 that allowed remote dialin for maintence and administration. Prior to the Cisco IPT installation, there were able to get 50k+. Afterward, they could only get 25-30k. We had to go back to the 1FB line, completely circumventing the IPT system.
