No, Unity will only light/dim the MWI based on voice mail messages in your inbox (i.e. messages with a class of IPM.Note.Voice.Unity). Emails and faxes can trigger notifications (i.e. tone pagers, dial the home phone, kick out a text page etc...) but will not light the MWI.

No, there's no way to force it to set the MWI on your phone based on the presence of non voice mail messages.

This sounds a little like my question but mine is about return receipts.

If subscriber maiboxes have only "Announce total number of new Voice messages" checked (the AA Help says it does not announce the number of return receipt messages), then why does Unity say "You have 2 new messages" when they are both just Return Receipts?

Of course these Return Receipts are in the new Voice Message category when you go to retrieve new VOICE messages, but yet it does not light the MWI!? I can understand emails not lighting the MWI but these receipts are under the voice message category so you think they would light the light.

I have two Users who have return receipt setup automatically for all Outgoing emails in Outlook. These users get like 50 of these Return Receipts in their voice box under "New Voice messages" every day. They have to delete all of them before they can get to their REAL new voice messages (they complain to me about it regaulrly - I feel bad having no answer for them). Any suggestions??

Thanks,

Kimberly

Yeah, receipts had to be handled in a pretty odd way given the filtering restrictions we have to work with in Exchange I'm afraid. Here's a thread that goes into some detail and also talks about how you can turn receipts off as voice mail over the phone:

http://avforums.isomedia.com/cgi-bin/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=unityent&Number=41&page=&view=&sb=&vc=1#Post41

NDRs, by the way, will always show up in the voice mail stack and cannot be turned off. They will not turn on the lamp because the notifier (the guy watching everyone's email box for state changes for notification and MWIs) is only looking for messages that have a message class of IPM.Note.Voice.Unity.

You can snag the registry edit tool off my web page to set the receipts to not show up over the phone, by the way... little easier than hacking the registry yourself.

I do not love registry hacks (I have screwed up a few).

I can not find the registry edit tool that you are talking about on your web page.

Is it under 2.4 Tools?

Can you give me a link to this registry edit tool.

Thanks,

Kimberly

It's on the general tools section since it's not version dependant. It'll only show you registry changes appropriate to the version of Unity it's being run on, however.

Here's the link:

Thanks Jeff.

So users will not hear delivery receipts & return receipts when they go to retreive their new voice messages over the phone after this registry hack is made?

Then will there still be a visible issue for the users or is the remainder of the problem down in the programming?

What is meant by NDR?

You said NDRs will always show up in the message stack & can't be turned off. You are going to turn them off in a future version & this will fix the problem?

Thanks,

Kimberly

yes, once the registry change is made receipts will not be presented in the voice mail stack over the phone... of course they'll still be there if they check their messages via Outlook.

NDR = Non Delivery Receipt. If there's a problem delivering a message (full mailbox, broken connection, nonexistent account etc...) it will be bounced back to the user as an NDR. These are relatively rare and will always be offered in the voice mail stack... these can be any kind of message (fax, voice mail, email), doesn't matter. We don't consider this a bug to be fixed, folks should always be aware when a sent message didn't get where it's going.

That said we are working on a design for a special receipts stack (seperate from voice, email and fax message stacks) but currently it's not on the short term radar. This is part of the custom stack options we'd like to do (i.e. folks can dictate the order messages are presented to them over the phone on a per user basis). It's not slated for any release of 3.1 or 3.2 at the moment, however. Lots of work, although I think it's a feature worth pursuing since everyone has their own opinions about the best message presenatation format over the phone.
