We are using Unified Messaging. Is there a way to route a DID directly to a voicemail box without creating a phone?

Sure, create a CTI route point and set the DN to forward all to voicemail. Make sure that the DN is either the primary or alternate extension of the mailbox that you want to forward to.

forgive my ignorance, I'm a callmanager newbie. What is a cti route point? If it helps, we are running CM 4.1

Go to Device -> CTI Route Point
Enter all the necessary fields.
